Dear Colleagues and Friends, I welcome all of you in Palermo in the ancient land of Sicily, rich of history and culture at the center of the Mediterranean Sea. I am confident that you will enjoy the archeological ruins and the amazing landscapes that you will find here. It is a great honor to share the Presidency of the 2nd International Symposium on advances in Spine Surgery with an outstanding and worldwide-recognized personality of international neurosurgery, as Prof. Armando Basso. The second edition of SIACCO joins again experts on Spine surgery with an international reputation, coming from South America, Europe and other Continents. Spine surgery is growing up in our daily practice and deserves the highest scientific consideration related to appropriate indications, surgical strategy and instrumentation. The Symposium will focus on the update knowledge of all these aspects, including endoscopy and percutaneous techniques. I am sure that we will appreciate these highlights. I would like to acknowledge the tremendous efforts of Natale Francaviglia and Giancarlo Guizzardi in organizing this Meeting. They have already proved to be very active and eager to provide an exciting scientific program and a warm, friendly hospitality. I look forward to meeting you in Palermo. Francesco Tomasello
